Course Objective:
This course provides a survey on the diagnoses, treatments, and prevention for a few ageing-related
health conditions from the TCM and CAM perspectives. The biomedically defined diseases commonly
seen in the older adults are interpreted by Classic Traditional Chinese theories, and dietary therapies
and herbal medicine are presented for preventing and treating these health conditions.
At the end of the class, participants will be able to:
– Describe aging-related health conditions from the TCM perspective;
– Differentiate the patterns of aging-related diseases with TCM diagnoses;
– Suggest supplements and dietary therapies to the elderly populations for a healthy life;
– Safely and properly prescribe herbal formulas to improve some aging-related health conditions; and,
– Educate elderly patients to maintain health with TCM knowledge.
